Bio

I was born and raised in Queens, New York, where more languages are spoken than anywhere in the world. It was this crazy, wonderful mix of words and cultures that inspired my wanderlust at an early age. I have traveled solo throughout Latin America, where I was confused for a soap opera actress in Chile and rode on a carnival float in Colombia, and have ventured around other parts of the globe with friends, relatives and, at times, relative strangers who became friends.

A former managing editor of New York Weddings and senior editor of the Village Voice, I have written for the New York Times, New York magazine, Budget Travel, and the Daily News, among others. I have also worked as an editor with Seventeen and CosmoGirl.

Currently, I am a contributing editor and blogger for Latina magazine; a regular writer for the New York Post’s Tempo section; and a translator for World Writers. I am fluent in Spanish and have written and edited copy in the language, as well.

In my free time, I am a mentor with Girls Write Now, a nonprofit volunteer mentoring organization that matches creative teenage girls from New York City’s public high schools with professional women writers in the community.

I write and edit full-time and live in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Follow me on Twitter.
